Steve Anwar (aka Sapien) is a meditation teacher that can’t sit still. A maker of solid steel sculptures inspired by ethereal weightlessness. A man with industrial Sheffield roots enthralled by eastern spirituality. The collision of opposites is the catalyst for his creativity.

Sapien specialises in making large, dynamic sculptures for public spaces & private collectors that tell stories in steel. He is well known for his work in metal receiving numerous merits and competition wins. Working with high-profile clients like: Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Sky Arts in 2021 elevated his practice and generated much interest, resulting in new projects for historic sites inc. Waverley the former Orgreave Colliery and infamous battle of Orgreave. Both ‘Mantra Machine’ and ‘Only Breath’ were commended for capturing movement, conjuring imagery of wheels, cogs, jet engines or propellers; spiralling onwards in continuous motion. And yet, for all their steely sturdiness and complex construction, there is a real sense of space, lightness and flow.
