Exhibition Programme

Persistence Works hosts a programme of exhibitions in its Reception area.
These are open to the public from Monday to Friday 10.00am to 5.00pm (except on Thursdays when we open at 10.45am) and admission is free.
The exhibitions are selected by our Curatorial Committee (comprising of space holding and non-space holding members, an independent curator and a member of our staff).
The Committee sends out a call for exhibition proposals twice a year in the
E-Newsletter, then meets to select from the submitted proposals. If you have any questions about our exhibitions programme please contact Jo Hodgson at jo@artspace.org.uk

In Progress
Trish O'Shea

18 August - 12 September

An exhibition by Sheffield Town Hall's artist in residence. As she approaches the end of her eight week residency, artist Trish O'Shea will be using the reception area at Persistence Works to show the work she has produced so far. Using the reception area as an extension of her studio, she will be working in the space at selected times, talking to visitors about the project and her work in progress.

Thicket
Gillian Brent
22 September - 31 October

For her exhibition at Persistence Works, Sheffield based artist Gillian Brent will create a sculptural installation of tall steel objects, referring to the ‘urban forest’ of signage, cctv, street lighting, mobile phone masts and tv aerials that dominates our modern environment: Every building, street, motorway, roundabout has a forest of vertical poles. Akin to an indoor sculpture park, the work will comprise objects towering up to 5 metres set into islands covered with real grass, utilising the full height of Persistence Works’ reception space.

EXHIBITION EVENT: Friday 3 October 6-7.30pm ALL WELCOME

Open Studios

Yorkshire ArtSpace Society organises two Open Studio events annually at Persistence Works. These events are a unique opportunity for visitors to tour the building and our studios. The first usually happens around May Day Bank Holiday and is part of the city-wide Open Up Sheffield event, the second takes place in late November.

These are major visual arts event in Sheffield and aim to:

The last Open Studios evenst took place on 23 and 24 November 2007, and on Saturday 26 April 2008, when around 40 artists and craft makers opened their studios to the public. It was a great success in terms of sales and commissions for our members, and attracting visitors who were able to take part in free drop-in workshops helping to raise money for Sheffield Neurocare Charity.

The next Open Studios event will be the last weekend in November 2008.
