In collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University, the Stars on Starting Out series will be taking until December 2018 and features the great and good from the creative sector - from fine art, design and contemporary craft to fashion and film.Caryn Franklin will share her experiences and insights into her career journey so far. She will be joined by Sheffield artist Miriam Griffiths.

Caryn Franklin MBE is a former Fashion Editor and Co-editor of i-D Magazine; a prime-time TV Presenter and Broadcaster, now Fashion Commentator and Activist. Projects have involved international design names and everyday users of fashion as well as refugees in battle zones, workers in free-trade-zone slums, mental health experts, MP's and Government departments. She has written for numerous magazines, newspapers and websites, produced 4 books, authored many TV shows and documentaries on fashion as well as co-created groundbreaking campaigns such Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and All Walks Beyond the Catwalk. Caryn has an MSc in Applied Psychology and is currently Professor of Diversity at Kingston School of Art.

Miriam Griffiths Knitwear is a small scale luxury knitwear label based in Sheffield. All the pieces are created from high quality locally sourced materials with a focus on using natural materials. All her collections are designed, knitted and finished by Miriam in her studio at Yorkshire Artspace’s Exchange Place Studios. Miriam graduated from London College of Fashion in 2013 where she studied Surface Textiles and specialised in Knitwear. The brand spawned from her love of making and being a part of the whole design process from research to end product. Miriam aims to create innovative craft clothing that is exciting yet wearable and easy to integrate into your daily wardrobe.
