'This is Sheffield' exhibition MADE NORTH Gallery

21st January - 21st February (Private View Friday 23rd January)

Fashion, Interior, Product and Furniture inspired by the city of Sheffield ‘This is Sheffield’, is a showcase of design work by MDes students at Sheffield Hallam University. The work is inspired by and celebrates the city of Sheffield.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Sheffield Hallam University and MADE NORTH’s Northern Industrial Project.

Using Sheffield as inspiration, students from MDes Fashion, Interior, Product and Furniture have produced work representing the city and what it has to offer in 2015. Work on display ranges from screenprinted fabrics and clothing to a pestle and mortar made from cast iron and a glass sweet jar.

The exhibition showcases the work from over 30 students. Work on display ranges from objects drawing on the city’s rich industrial heritage and utilising local manufacturing or technology, to more abstract conceptual work.

The Northern Industrial Project explores the creation of a collection of furniture and everyday objects that demonstrate the provenance, industry, personality and craft of northern design and manufacture. We would like to see products designed, made and purchased in close proximity, promoting and creating new networks and markets for designers and local manufacturers.
